Tally (“the app”) is an expense tracker. You tell it what you spent — by speaking, by typing a sentence, or by entering the amount by hand — and it keeps a record for you.
This policy explains exactly what leaves your device, who receives it, and what we keep. It covers the Tally iOS app published by Mansur Doshaev (“we”, “us”).
Every expense you save (amount, currency, category, note, date) is written to a database inside the app’s own storage on your device. It is not uploaded to us and we cannot read it. Deleting the app deletes this data permanently.
When you tap record, the app captures audio using your microphone. The recording is held in temporary storage on your device, sent for transcription, and then deleted from your device. Recordings are capped at 60 seconds.
The audio is sent to Groq, Inc., which converts it to text using the Whisper speech recognition model. It reaches Groq through Cloudflare, Inc., which we use as a technical gateway between the app and our AI providers.
We do not keep the audio. We do not attach your name, email, device identifier or account to it, because the app has none.
The transcribed text, or the sentence you typed into the AI text field, is sent to Google LLC and processed by the Gemini model. Google returns the amount, currency, category and description, which the app then shows you for confirmation.
This text is a description of a purchase, so it can reveal spending habits. Please do not include information in it that you would not want processed by an outside company.
Again, this reaches Google through Cloudflare’s gateway, and carries no identifier of you.
Depending on the Google API service tier used, Google may use submitted content to improve its products. If you would rather this not happen, use manual entry, which never leaves your device.
When an expense is in a currency other than your base currency, the app asks
open.er-api.com for the current exchange rate. This request
contains only currency codes, for example USD to EUR.
It contains no amount, no description and nothing about you.
The app stores two small values in your device’s app storage: how many AI entries you have used this calendar month, and whether you have agreed to AI processing. Both stay on your device.
Tally Pro is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple handles the payment. We never see your card number, billing address or Apple ID. We receive only a signed receipt from Apple confirming that a subscription is active, and that receipt is checked on your device.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location, advertising identifier, or device identifier. We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not build a profile of you.
The app asks for your explicit agreement before the first time it sends anything to Groq or Google, and it explains what will be sent. If you decline, voice and AI text entry stay switched off and you can keep using Tally with manual entry.
Agreement is asked for once. The app does not offer a way to take it back afterwards, so if you change your mind, deleting the app stops all processing and removes everything stored on your device.
| Company | What it receives | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Groq, Inc. | Voice recordings, for transcription | groq.com |
| Google LLC | The text description of your expense, for parsing | policies.google.com |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Passes the above through as a technical gateway | cloudflare.com |
| Apple Inc. | Purchase and subscription handling | apple.com |
| open.er-api.com | Currency codes only | exchangerate-api.com |
Tally is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Because Tally has no accounts and we hold no copy of your data, the fastest way to exercise any right over what is on your device is to delete the expense in the app, or to delete the app entirely — both remove the data permanently.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR to access, correct, erase, or restrict processing of personal data, and to object to it. For the processing described above, the legal basis is your consent. The app does not currently provide a way to withdraw that consent once given — deleting the app is the way to stop processing. To make a request about anything held by our processors, or to ask us to act on any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA to know what is collected and to request deletion. We do not sell personal information and never have.
If we change how the app handles your data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes to AI processing will be presented in the app before they take effect.
